PUNTA CANA, La Altagracia<\/strong>. - On Thursday, the Vice President of the Republic and President of the Electricity Cabinet, Raquel Pe\u00f1a, and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, inaugurated the Sixth Ministerial Meeting on Energy and Climate of the Americas (ECPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting brings together high-level energy authorities from member countries and focuses on \"Renewable Energy in the Americas: Integration and Innovation,\" which aligns with ECPA's core themes. Representatives from the private sector, energy and sustainable development experts, and other relevant actors participated, emphasizing its importance in the regional agenda for sustainability and energy cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President Raquel Pe\u00f1a stated that the sixth Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas is a scenario that enhances strategic partnership capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean and invites the search for sustainable and responsible solutions in a management area that is decisive for the well-being of countries. Pe\u00f1a mentioned that the Dominican Republic sees many opportunities for the entire value chain in the expansion of renewable energies. To this end, the Dominican Government has launched several initiatives, such as the construction of the Manzanillo electricity complex in the province of Montecristi, which will allow a supply of the demand expected for the coming years by the National Energy Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vice president also referred to the expansion of renewables through the interconnection of significant wind and solar photovoltaic projects and 26 other projects that continue to advance in construction. Vice President Pe\u00f1a indicated that within the framework of the law to encourage the development of renewable energy sources, the Dominican Government has taken necessary actions to boost its production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Almonte said that organizing this Sixth Ministerial Meeting of ECPA expresses the interest in expanding the levels of dialogue between our governments and represents a unique opportunity to ponder in-depth the conditions required for a well-conceived, precisely managed, and fair energy transition. The Dominican Government has been accelerating the deployment of renewables as a State policy, and its accompaniment by thermal energy tenders is a way to make the transition compatible with security. For this, they must attract more significant investment flows and have financing instruments at adequate costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto \u00c1lvarez, energy diplomacy is an indispensable tool for promoting and protecting national and regional interests and ensuring that the transition to renewable energy sources is not only a climate necessity but also an economic opportunity and an imperative to reduce socioeconomic gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that to achieve a just and inclusive energy transition in the region, cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and technologies from multilateral organizations are required, where a set of essential knowledge has been accumulated that contributes to this objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
